Park South YMCA
2500 romine ave
The Park South YMCA provides pre-school for 150 children ages 2-4. The school prepares these children for Kindergarten - a much needed service in this community.
In the City For Good Partnered with Trammell Crow Company to acquire the abandoned building across the street and converted it into additional classrooms to meet the need for children on the waiting list. This facility opened in late August of this year and resulted in the conversion of a blighted property into one that is making a positive contribution to its community.
Current Project: Kitchen Remodel
In The City For Good, Inc. will completely renovate the existing inadequate kitchen facility at the Park South YMCA, to enable the YMCA to provide meals for its expanded early childhood education classes and after-school programs. Park South Y’s educational and after-school programs currently serve over 400 meals daily to more than 200 children participating in those programs, all of which are prepared in the Y’s inadequate existing kitchen. Over 100 children enrolled in the Y’s full-day early childhood education classes receive three full meals daily, prepared and served by the Y. Proper nutrition is vitally important for effective learning at any age, and particularly so for young children living in disadvantaged areas of the city, who may not receive optimal nutrition at home. Part of the Park South YMCA’s commitment to early childhood education involves providing nutritious meals to its students, but the food preparation facility at the Y cannot handle the demands being placed on it.
In The City For Good, Inc. proposes to work with its construction partner, the Trammell Crow Company, to complete a fully renovated and properly equipped commercial kitchen, which will be owned and operated by the YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas.
